# Risk settings

Use your organisation's own terms for probability, impact and risk categories.

Every organisation has its own vocabulary for risk. Under **Settings**, the **Compliance** page lets you make Ruler's risk heatmap and risk assessments use yours.

## Heatmap axis descriptions

The **Risk heatmap** section describes the ends of the two axes: high likelihood, low likelihood, high impact and low impact. Click **Edit** at the bottom right to add a description for each. These descriptions help colleagues score risks consistently when they move the sliders in a [risk assessment](/risks/risk-assessments.md).

## Risk types

Below the axis descriptions you manage the risk types that risks are grouped into, such as continuity risk, integrity risk, IT risk or legal risk.

* Click **New risk type** to add one.
* Click the **pencil** next to a risk type to rename it.

Risk types appear as a filter on the [Risk heatmap](/risks/risk-heatmap.md), and you choose one when you describe a risk in a risk assessment.
