# Reading an alert

What is on an alert's detail page and how to use it.

Click an alert in the Inbox to open it. The detail page brings together everything you need to judge whether the alert matters to your organisation.

## The alert itself

The main text is written by Ruler's editors. It explains what has changed, for whom, and from when. The date and time the alert was sent are shown above the text.

## Linked news article

To the right of the text you see the source document the alert is based on, for example a decree, a regulator's publication or a court ruling, with its publication date and source. Click it to read the original.

## Editor's note

Below the linked article, the editor's note tells you where the change lands in Ruler. It names the radar items and topics that have been or will be amended because of this alert, so you know which parts of your Legal Framework to look at next.

## Actions on the page

The same action buttons as in the Inbox list are available at the top of the page:

* **Archive** the alert once you have dealt with it.
* **Impact** to score it as no, low, moderate or high impact.
* **Create task** to assign follow-up work.
* **Info** to see the profiles and departments the alert applies to.

Impact scoring, tasks and archiving are explained in [Scoring impact and archiving](/inbox/impact-and-archiving.md).
