# Themes and topics

How themes and topics are organised, and how to read the design and effectiveness scores.

Open **Legal Framework** and then **Themes and topics** to see all themes that apply to your institution. A theme groups related standards, for example *Customer Due Diligence*, *IT outsourcing* or *Product governance*. Each theme contains a set of topics, and each topic summarises one part of the regulation.

## The themes overview

Every theme is shown as a card with two bars: **Design** and **Effectiveness**. The bars summarise the assessment of all topics in the theme, so a theme with many unassessed or non-compliant topics stands out immediately.

Click the **Info** button on a theme to see which profiles it applies to and how design and effectiveness have been assessed. Use the search bar to find a theme by name.

## The topics in a theme

Click a theme to open its topics. Each topic card shows its own design and effectiveness score as coloured dots. A topic that is linked to a risk in a [risk assessment](/risks/risk-assessments.md) also shows a small triangle in the risk's colour. As on the theme level, the **Info** button shows the profiles a topic applies to and the assessment behind the scores.

You only see topics relevant to the department you are logged in for and to the profiles you have selected. Use the **Department** and **Profiles** dropdowns at the top right to switch, see [User roles and access](/getting-started/roles-and-access.md).

Use the search bar and the **Filter** button to find a topic in a large theme.

## From a topic to the detail

Click a topic to open its detail page. This is where the summary, the relevant articles, the radar links and the assessment live. See [The topic page](/legal-framework/topic-page.md).
