# Signalling

With the Other laws module you monitor non-financial legislation yourself, using Ruler's tooling.

{% hint style="info" %}
Signalling is only visible if your organisation has purchased Ruler's **Other laws** module in addition to the standard financial profiles.
{% endhint %}

The standard Ruler profiles cover financial laws and regulations, and Ruler's editors decide which changes are relevant to you. The Other laws module extends Ruler to legislation outside that scope, in profiles such as:

* Labour and participation (HR)
* Pension (HR)
* Social security (HR)
* Tax
* Legal doctrine
* Legal procedures
* Housing market

The difference is who does the editing. For the financial profiles, Ruler's editors review every incoming item before it reaches your Inbox. For the other laws profiles, **you are the editor**: news items arrive straight from the source on the Signalling page, and your organisation decides what is relevant and links it to the Legal Framework.

## How it works

1. New items from the sources you have switched on appear on the [Signalling page](/signalling/reviewing-items.md).
2. You go through them, archive what is irrelevant, and mark the rest as relevant.
3. A relevant item is [linked to a topic](/signalling/linking-items.md) in the [Legal Framework for other laws](/signalling/legal-framework-other-laws.md). It then lands in the Inbox of the department that owns that topic, so colleagues are informed and can follow it up.

Administrators choose which sources feed Signalling under [Signalling sources](/administration/signalling-sources.md).
