# Reviewing incoming items

Work through incoming news items and decide what is relevant.

The **Signalling** page lists all incoming news items for the other laws profiles you have. Every item arrives under **New items**, and the job is to work through them one by one. A **Redefine relevance** section sits above the new items.

Each row shows the item's title, its source (or the number of sources it was found in), and the date and time it came in.

## Filtering

Use the search bar and **Filter** to narrow the list by **source** and by **status**: new, archived or relevant.

## Deciding on an item

For each item you have three options:

* **Archive** it if it is not relevant. Use the archive button on the row for a single item. Ruler asks for an explanation, which builds the audit trail for later inspections or evaluations.
* Mark it **Relevant** if it is. A pop-up opens in which you link the item to a topic and department(s); see [Linking an item to the Legal Framework](/signalling/linking-items.md).
* **Open** it by clicking the title if you need to read more first.

## The item page

The item page shows the source the item came from, the linked documents, and the full text of the news item. From here you can mark it **Relevant** or **Archive** it, exactly as from the list.
